Extensions
Reconfiguring and extending your existing house, is a great way to get the space, style of living and a personal touch that would bring new life to your home. We recognise that sometimes existing buildings are no longer fit for a modern style of living. The way that we live has changed a lot over the past 100 or so years. We really enjoy working on extensions and often find the constraints of an existing property often prompt the most creative and valuable design solutions.
Our Approach
Our approach to design typically starts with a review of your existing spaces and how you use them with your lifestyle aspirations. We always aim to bring your character and personality to the design whilst being responsive to the existing challenges of the building. We take pride in the design quality our team are able to offer you, developed through years of architectural training and experience. Careful consideration is given to the material choices both internally and externally, as well as those little details that really make the design sing.
Holistic design approach
We always review the whole house to identify which elements work well (and which don’t!) to inform the design proposals. This isn't always a large extension to the rear of the house; sometimes we find that smaller interventions are the best solution. We are always looking to achieve the best value for you through the most effective improvement of your spaces that impact the way you live in your home. We take into consideration the challenges of the existing building, that might be improving comfort levels or bringing natural light into the heart of the spaces.
Our proposals aim to respond sensitively to the surrounding context, grounding the design within its place. We believe this adds value to it's identity and improves it's longevity. We often draw on our experience working with Listed Buildings and within Conservation Areas, in preparation of Planning Applications, that’s certainly not to say the design style can’t be bold, contemporary and bespoke to you.

Detailing & Construction
The detailed design, craftsmanship and material qualities of your build brings your concept to life and can really make your design sing! Our team are proficient in the technical design skills need to bring your concepts to reality, having already given consideration to the materials and buildability of the design during the concept stage. Throughout technical design we are looking to achieve your preferred design aesthetic, durability and buildability, all with your budget in mind. When dealing with existing buildings, the junctions between ‘old’ and ‘new’ are carefully considered both thermally and aesthetically to provide a legibility to the development of the building over its lifespan.
We are always keen to work closely with craftspeople to realise your building, often using natural materials which typically result in more tactile finishes, whilst also being safer to install and low in embodied carbon. Our support throughout the Construction stage is often highly valued by our clients in helping to achieve the desired quality of construction as well as keeping control over costs as decisions are made onsite. We feel that the joy of moving into a home that's bespoke to you and your way of living are truly worth it. Our previous clients would agree too (see Projects).

Comfort & Sustainability
Whilst you are considering an extension or reconfiguring your property it is a valuable stage to review the comfort levels of your building as a whole. We look to identify design opportunities to improve your comfort
We will also discuss various options to reduce the energy demands of both the existing property and the new extension, through improved levels of insulation and airtightness. We also look to minimise the embodied energy of the new construction work (i.e. the energy required to produce, transport and install the building materials). This is often through natural materials but also through efficiency of the design as a whole.
